A milestone in the theme park industry
In 2015, Michael Mack revolutionised the world of rollercoasters with Alpenexpress Coastiality, combining real rides with virtual reality. For the first time, it was possible to merge a rollercoaster ride with an immersive digital world. As soon as the VR goggles are on, guests are immersed in a virtual landscape that is perfectly synchronised with the physical movement of the rollercoaster. Every turn and acceleration intensifies the experience.
Thanks to Coastiality, a single rollercoaster becomes a platform for unlimited experiences. With a different VR film each time, guests experience a new adventure every time they ride.
The technology behind the thrill
Coastiality's success story began in 2014, when Professor Thomas Wagner from the University of Applied Sciences in Kaiserslautern, came up with the idea of combining VR technology with rollercoaster rides. In co-operation with Michael Mack, VR Coaster GmbH & Co. KG was founded in 2015. The company celebrated a world premiere with Alpenexpress Coastiality at Europa-Park!
For the first time, guests were able to immerse themselves in a fully synchronised virtual world with VR headsets and experience the real forces of the rollercoaster. This was the beginning of an international success story. Today, VR Coaster implements immersive VR experiences on rollercoasters and rides worldwide.

Eurosat Coastiality – The Phantom of the Opera’ begins at Europa-Park
In the France themed area, visitors to ‘Eurosat Coastiality’ can now look forward to a new virtual reality adventure: ‘The Phantom of the Opera’. The captivating story is accompanied by world-famous music, making the VR rollercoaster ride a unique experience for the whole family. Europa-Park owner Roland Mack said after the first ride, “With 'Eurosat Coastiality - The Phantom of the Opera' we have opened another highlight for our visitors to Europa-Park. The innovative VR technology offers a new level of world-class experience."

Best season in history: more than six million visitors come to Europa-Park for the first time in 2022
In the 2022 season, for the first time in its almost-50-year history, Germany's largest theme park exceeded six million visitors, representing a significant expansion of its market leadership. Europa-Park owner Roland Mack says, “We see this record as a huge vote of confidence from our visitors, and one that comes in a difficult year in which war, supply problems, inflation and the energy crisis have been making things difficult for all of us. People are looking for leisure and balance, and the Europa-Park Resort, alongside the Rulantica water world, offers just that, which is an attractive travel destination in its own right. The beds of the hotel resort, which number approximately 5,800 hotel beds, were also often fully booked in 2022. In November, the internationally acclaimed new restaurant of the future ‘Eatrenalin’ was opened. A total of over 80 million Euros have been invested within three years.”
